The Blessings You Longer See

Scripture:
“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.” — Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NIV)

Reflection:
One of the strangest paradoxes of gratitude is this: the more comfortable we are, the less we notice our blessings. What once felt like abundance becomes normal. Yesterday’s miracle becomes today’s expectation. Over time, the heart forgets how to say “thank you” because it stops recognizing how fragile blessings really are.

Hedonic adaptation makes comfort feel like air—always present, rarely appreciated. The truth is, you can be surrounded by gifts and still feel empty. Gratitude isn’t automatic. It must be chosen, cultivated, awakened. When we slow down long enough to notice what we have, something shifts: we stop living as consumers of blessings and begin living as stewards of grace.

Prayer:
Lord, awaken my eyes to Your goodness. Help me see the blessings I overlook and the gifts I’ve stopped noticing. Give me a heart that is grateful not only when life is difficult, but also when life is abundant. Amen.

Practical Step:
Identify three blessings you’ve stopped noticing, and thank God for each one out loud.

40 Days of Gratitude Reminder:
Pause today and write down one thing you’re grateful for that you once took for granted.
