Scripture:
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” — Psalm 13:5 (NIV)
Reflection:
Life is rarely all good or all bad. Most days are a mix of joy and frustration, blessing and burden, hope and disappointment. Many Christians assume they must “pick a side”—either be grateful or be honest about their pain. But Scripture gives us permission to hold both. David worshiped while he wept. He trusted while he questioned. He rejoiced while he lamented.
This is one of the deepest paradoxes of gratitude: thanksgiving and sorrow are not enemies. Sometimes gratitude is born in the very middle of our tears. God is big enough to hold all our emotions, and gratitude is not cancelled by struggle—it is anchored by His presence in the struggle.
Prayer:
God, thank You for meeting me in the tension of real life. Teach me to bring both my gratitude and my grief before You with honesty and faith. Amen.
Practical Step:
Pray two sentences today:
- “Lord, here is what hurts.”
- “Lord, here is what I’m thankful for.”
40 Days of Gratitude Reminder:
Write down one thing you’re thankful for right now, even if this is a heavy season.
