When Waiting Becomes Holy

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” — Psalm 37:7

Waiting is one of the least appreciated spiritual disciplines, not because we dislike the practice, but because waiting exposes our desire for control. Advent teaches us that waiting is not wasted time. It is formation space. It is the soil where trust grows roots deep enough to hold us when life becomes unpredictable.

Perspective is everything, right? When we think of waiting as delay, frustration builds. But when we begin to understand waiting as preparation, the ground beneath our feet feels different. God does His best shaping work in seasons when we cannot rush the process. We see this in Mary’s journey, in the long expectation of Israel, and in the quiet ways God works in our own unfinished spaces.

Waiting becomes holy the moment we stop resisting it and begin receiving it. Not as punishment. Not as divine hesitation. But as an invitation to walk more slowly with the One who already sees what we cannot.

Application:
Choose one part of your life where you feel impatient. Rather than demanding clarity, ask God what He may be forming in you through the waiting itself.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to trust You in the waiting, and to see this season as holy ground.

40 Days of Gratitude Reminder:
Give thanks today for one way God has strengthened you through waiting — even if you understood it only in hindsight.
