Weekday Word w/ Eric

Who is Your Abigail?

Scripture (1 Samuel 25:32–33, CEB)

“Bless the Lord God of Israel… for preventing me from shedding blood.”

Reflection
Forgiveness is not only something we give—it is something we must be willing to receive. David’s response is striking not because he stops, but because he listens. Pride yields to wisdom. Certainty yields to gratitude.

This moment shows that forgiveness requires humility on both sides. Abigail risks speaking truth. David risks admitting he was wrong. Forgiveness cannot take root where defensiveness reigns.

David’s blessing reveals something profound: he recognizes forgiveness as a gift from God, mediated through another human being. He doesn’t resent the interruption; he welcomes it. This is spiritual maturity on display.

Forgiveness reshapes us when we allow it to correct us—not just comfort us.

Application
Who has tried to stop you from a harmful path—and did you listen?

Prayer
Lord, give me ears that can hear hard grace.
