Weekday Word w/ Eric

Letting God Finish the Story

Scripture (1 Samuel 25:39, CEB)

“The Lord has brought Nabal’s evil down on his own head.”

Reflection
The story ends not with revenge, but with release. David does nothing—and God acts. This is perhaps the hardest form of forgiveness: trusting that justice does not depend on our intervention.

David is spared the weight of vengeance, and Nabal’s fate is no longer his responsibility. Forgiveness here is a relinquishing of control, a decision to let God write the final chapter.

This does not mean the harm didn’t matter. It means David refused to let it define him. Forgiveness allowed him to move forward unburdened by bitterness or bloodshed.

Forgiveness doesn’t erase the past—but it frees the future.

Application
What outcome are you still trying to control that may need to be entrusted to God?

Prayer
God, I release what I cannot carry any longer.
