Weekday Word w/ Eric

Being Right & Wrong Simultaneously

Scripture:
“And though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:2

Reflection:
It is possible to be right and still be wrong.

Paul makes that point with startling clarity. A person may speak truth, defend truth, sacrifice greatly, and still miss the heart of the gospel if love is absent. Truth matters. Conviction matters. Practice matters. But the spirit in which all of that is carried matters too.

This is one of the central challenges of spiritual maturity. We are not simply called to hold correct beliefs. We are called to become Christlike people. That means belief, practice, and heart must be held together. A faith that is all head and no heart grows cold. A faith that is all action and no rootedness grows thin. A faith that is all feeling and no truth becomes unstable. Wholeness comes when all of it is brought under the lordship of Jesus.

And that kind of wholeness is not produced overnight. It is formed over time — in worship, in service, in prayer, in repentance, in community, in daily surrender. God is still weaving together what sin and fear have pulled apart.

So maybe the question today is not only, “Do I believe the right things?” Maybe it is also, “Am I becoming the kind of person who sounds and loves and lives more like Jesus?”

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, do not let me be content with outward faith alone. Bring my beliefs, my actions, and my heart under your rule. Make me truthful, faithful, and loving. Amen.

Practice:
Think about one recent conversation or conflict. Did your spirit reflect the heart of Christ?
