Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”
When Paul reflects on Timothy’s faith, he doesn’t begin with Timothy. He begins with Lois and Eunice. Before Timothy became a leader in the church, he was a child shaped by the faithfulness of others. Before he taught anyone else, someone taught him. Before he encouraged others, someone encouraged him.
That is often how God works. We like dramatic conversion stories and life-changing moments, but much of God’s work happens quietly through ordinary people. A grandmother shares stories of Scripture. A parent offers a bedtime prayer. A Sunday School teacher faithfully prepares a lesson. A friend walks beside us during a difficult season. God uses people to help people find Him.
Many of us can look back and identify individuals who shaped our spiritual lives. Some may not even realize the impact they had. A simple conversation, a kind word, or a faithful example may have influenced us far more than they ever knew.
The beautiful truth is that God is still working this way today. Someone invested in you. Now God invites you to invest in someone else. The faith we receive is not meant to stop with us. It is meant to continue its journey through us.
Application:
Take a few minutes today and make a list of people who helped shape your faith. Thank God for each of them, and consider reaching out to one person to express your gratitude.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the people You have used to guide me toward You. Help me appreciate their influence and inspire me to become that kind of person in the life of someone else. Amen.
