God’s Family is Bigger

Scripture: Mark 3:35

“Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Family is one of God’s greatest gifts, but not everyone experiences family in the same way. Some people have warm memories and strong support systems. Others carry wounds, disappointments, and losses. Most of us have a mixture of both.

Jesus understood this reality. He honored family relationships, but He also expanded the definition of family. He reminded His followers that God’s kingdom creates relationships that go beyond biology.

The church at its best becomes a place where spiritual mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, mentors, and friends are formed. Many people have discovered encouragement from someone who shared no DNA with them but shared their faith.

This is especially important for those who feel isolated or disconnected. God’s grace is not limited by our family history. He can bring people into our lives who help us heal, grow, and flourish.

The family of God is one of the ways God continues to care for His people.

Application:
Consider someone in your church family who has encouraged you. Reach out and thank them this week.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my life through Your church. Help me both receive and offer the gift of spiritual friendship. Amen.
