Scripture
“To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father…” — Jude 1
Reflection
Many of us have learned to connect love with achievement. We receive praise when we succeed, approval when we behave, and recognition when we meet expectations. Without realizing it, we may begin to imagine that God’s love works in much the same way—that God will love us more when we become more disciplined, more faithful, or more useful.
Jude speaks a better word. He addresses believers as those who are already loved in God the Father. Love is not presented as a prize waiting at the end of the spiritual journey. Love is the ground beneath our feet before the journey begins.
This does not mean that God is unconcerned with how we live. Love invites transformation. But genuine transformation grows from knowing that we are loved, not from fearing that love will disappear if we fail. God’s grace does not shame us into becoming better people. Grace creates a safe place where healing, repentance, and growth can begin.
You may see many things in yourself that still need to change. God sees them too. Yet God does not postpone love until you have finished changing. You are loved now—in your strength and weakness, your certainty and confusion, your faithfulness and failure.
Application
Stand before a mirror or sit quietly in prayer and repeat slowly: “I am loved in God.” Notice any resistance that rises within you. Do not argue with it. Simply return to the truth of Jude’s words.
Prayer
Loving Father, I often find it easier to believe in your love for other people than to receive it for myself. Teach me to live from the assurance that I am already loved. Let your love heal what shame has wounded, soften what fear has hardened, and transform what needs to change. Amen.
