Scripture
“To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.” — Jude 1
Reflection
We often speak about the importance of keeping the faith. We encourage one another to remain committed, continue praying, and hold tightly to what we believe. Those are important practices, especially during difficult or confusing seasons.
Yet Jude begins by reminding us of something even more important. Beneath our effort to keep the faith is the grace of a God who is keeping us. Our hope does not depend entirely upon the strength of our grip on God. It rests upon the strength of God’s grip on us.
There are seasons when faith feels strong and confident. There are other seasons when prayer becomes difficult, questions multiply, and God seems distant. During those times, we may fear that our weakness has placed us beyond the reach of grace. Jude assures us that God’s keeping love is not limited by our changing emotions.
Being kept does not mean that nothing painful will happen or that we will never stumble. It means that no struggle, doubt, disappointment, or failure has the power to separate us from the faithful presence of God. Even when our faith feels fragile, God remains faithful.
Application
Remember a difficult season through which God carried you. Write down one way grace was present, even if you did not recognize it at the time. Keep that reminder somewhere visible this week.
Prayer
Faithful God, thank you for holding me when I struggle to hold on to you. When my faith feels weak, remind me that your faithfulness remains strong. Keep me near to Christ, steady me in uncertain seasons, and help me trust the grace that will not let me go. Amen.
